From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can look forward to learning which players will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
